Local Food
These days, the catch all term in the media is “globalization.” Well, welcome to the New World Order. It is one that leads to the bizarre and expensive distribution of foods and monies in manners that make no sense and, frankly, are manipulative.
Strawberries are grown in bountiful amounts in San Diego. They are then shipped across the border to Mexico. Coming the other way up the road are Strawberries grown in Mexico. The amount of waste is simply phenomenal when you consider the transportation cost, pollution and manipulation of prices and wages where the strawberries are grown. Is this globalization really a good thing? More and more people think it is not.
Those who advocate local food economies are often called a movement, but such a characterization is somewhat humorous considering the “local” nature of the ideology. The basic idea is that the transportation of food over distances should be abandoned to a large extent to favor local food production. Critics often call this “food patriotism,” but is it really?
The growing and transporting of food over great distances makes little common sense if the same food can be grown locally. The pollution produced by driving a large truck across hundreds of miles is an unnecessary consequence. The massive waste of limited oil resources only adds to this. There are also the political aspects to the movement. You can learn more in our articles section.
We will soon be adding listings for local food companies so you can find them in your area. By giving your business to these companies, you support the local food initiative.
